Choke oil pressure switch
Ok, so my new Edelbrock Thunder series AVS 2 carb should be here today. It has an electric choke. In my search, i see that Ed recommended a PS 64 switch from Standard Motor Products. Is this the right switch? Has anyone used this switch with success? Also, did you have to use an adapter for the W When our vehicle is low on oil, the engine oil pressure indicator switch will light up the corresponding indicator on your instrument panel. In certain applications, the engine oil pressure indicator switch will power up your fuel pump if the fuel pump relay is defective. Now as long as the choke has voltage it is opening and an engine that began as just a hard starter has now lost the cold start help that a closed choke provides. The 3 prong oil pressure switch was used on quite a few GM engines through the 80's and can be had at any parts store for under 10 bucks. The Choke Heater fuse supplies 12 volts to the brown wire on the switch. When the switch closes (has oil pressure) 12 volts is applied to the choke heater. Now both the "top" and "bottom" terminals of the choke light have 12 volts, so the light goes out. If your light flickers with the engine running you either have low oil pressure or a bad switch.
With that said, the choke light has come on and I'm having some trouble diagnosing the issue. After some careful research it appears that the oil pressure switch may be to blame for the light being on and the choke not engaging during cold weather. I'm not sure though
The oil pressure sender for the dash gauge and 2. The oil pressure switch which powers the choke and keeps the "Choke" light out. When the switch goes bad, the "Choke" light comes on and power to the electric choke is lost, letting it close. I had this happen to me years ago. A new oil pressure switch solved the problem. I just put an electric choke on my 62 Olds and I used a Vega oil pressure switch (Standard P/N PS64 - about $10 from RockAuto). This sender has three terminals. The one in the center is for the oil idiot light, the other two are a normally open switch that closes with oil pressure. With that said, the choke light has come on and I'm having some trouble diagnosing the issue. After some careful research it appears that the oil pressure switch may be to blame for the light being on and the choke not engaging during cold weather. I'm not sure though This brass oil pressure tee adaptor includes a national pipe thread tee and nipple. Its dimensions measure 1/8l x 1/8w x 1/8h and the nipple measures 1/8. The tee fitting allows you to operate on both 1/8 national pipe thread warning light sender and 1/8 national pipe thread mechanical or electrical oil pressure gauges. The fuel pump pressure switch sometimes receives a signal from the oil pressure sensor separately, or in some cases may be built into the oil pressure sensor. If your oil pressure sensor malfunctions, it may also activate the fuel pump pressure switch. This can cause your vehicle not to start even if your oil pressure is normal. Your oil pressure sensor or switch monitors oil pressure in your engine. It sends these signals to the ECU and to your oil pressure gauge or warning light. If the oil pressure sensor in your vehicle stops functioning properly, it could give false readings. The oil light may come on or the gauge may read very high or at zero. The have 1 oil pressure switch and one transmitter, one single wire for the goes to transmitter to run gauge in dash, the 3 wire oil pressure switch runs the electric choke.when you have oil pressure the switch closes to complete the circuit. Switch is availabe from NAPA, can be looked up under the Jeep section.
